Social media detox

social media

It has been a week since I decided to do some sort of ‘social media detox’. And it has been a blast.

Since I stopped reading the news so often and practically stopped checking social media my mood has improved to such an extent that I’m back to being productive and cheerful.

I had time this week to do some Japanese, wrote my first post in dev.to website (a website for posting software development posts), write this post, do some coding outside of work, met friends, and organize a small board game night with my dutch gym bros.

And most importantly, I have the energy to do more stuff. It’s simply amazing.

Social media creates mental clutter

I think it can be related to the fact that I am more introverted than extroverted. People that might know me will come across as surprised by this. But turns out I’m more introverted than extroverted. Although I have big bursts of extrovert moments and I never shut up, I do need my let-me-alone days, and It’s true that generally, I spent more time with myself than with others.

So removing the social media and news, not having those external inputs, which, to be honest, most of the time are from people that I don’t give a damn. Leaves me with more mental energy for what really matters.

All of this comes down to a very simple concept: minimalism

Minimalism mind

For a long time, I’ve focused more on being a minimalist when it comes to things. And It did work out and still does today. But I forgot about also focusing on being mentally also a minimalist. To remove the excess of unnecessary stuff to have plenty of space for what really matters.

I will definitely keep doing this detox, and trying to see which things I can let go of so I can focus on what really makes me happy.

I’ll keep you posted 🙂
